Hydropower
There is a drop between the point where the water flows into our country via the rivers and where it flows out into the sea. This offers opportunities for energy generation without further damaging the landscape and/or the rivers. This can be done with fish-safe low-drop turbines, integrated into coastal works or in the free flow.

Dutch applications of hydropower
Landustrie, Fish flow Innovations, EQA Projects, Pentair Nijhuis, Spaans Babcock and Oryon Watermill are Dutch suppliers or developers of low-head, fish-safe water turbines.
Hydropower screw from landustrie
For polder pumping stations, bosom pumping stations, weirs and locks we supply various installations, such as screws and pumps. Fish-friendliness is not lost sight of. The Landy screw is a sustainable means of generating energy using water power. By applying the right drive and adjusting the dumping point, energy is generated with this rotating movement. The screw works as a generator with a very small water drop. The advantage over other energy sources is that the power of the water is available 24 hours a day.
Hydropower in the Dutch polders
Our polders have thousands of places with falling water: all unused energy sources. EQA Projects now has three products that generate energy in the polder. The EQA-SmartStuw and the EQA-Box are already on the market. The third product, the EQA-River, is working as a prototype in Zaltbommel. At the basis of these products lies an age-old invention: the water wheel.
Sustainable energy using a screw pump
The Spaans Babcock screw generator is an efficient type of generator for hydropower with low drop heights. Properties of the Spaans Babcock screw generator are the fish-friendliness, long life and low operating costs. Both off-grid, on-grid and hybrid systems are possible. Spaans Babcock can supply the complete solution, including slides, trash racks, switch cabinets and remote control.
Fish migration with FishFlow
FishFlow Innovations designs, develops and implements innovative products that combine the production of sustainable electricity with facilities for the passage and prevention of fish. Our products offer new solutions for fish migration and help prevent mortality and damage. By focusing on the natural behaviour of fish, FishFlow Innovations is the ideal partner for water boards and hydraulic engineering organisations that attach great importance to the welfare of fish.
Fish-friendly turbine from Pentair Nijhuis
The Fairbanks Nijhuis turbine harnesses energy from tidal currents in structures such as a dam. The patented and proven fish-friendly design features a direct drive, permanent magnet generator and a fully reversible impeller to maintain optimum performance in both current directions during the entire tidal cycle.
Oryon Watermill
The Oryon Watermill generates electricity from low tidal differences. In addition to tidal differences, the device can also be used for tidal currents.
In places where the water level is controlled by weirs, there is an abundance of available energy.
This watermill is a fish-friendly solution up to a drop height of 5 meters.
Tocardo, Lintur, and Water2Energy have solutions to generate energy in the free flow. These turbines work in a similar way to free flow tidal turbines with the difference that the number of production hours is higher because the flow is always in the same direction.
