Energy from water
The energy transition is also taking place at sea and in rivers. EWA, the Dutch Association for Energy from Water, makes opportunities for energy from water visible to the market, politics, and the Netherlands.

Our mission
As a trade association, our mission is to represent and empower our members in wave and tidal energy, hydropower, OTEC and salinity gradients and other water-based energy projects.

EWA, the advocate for energy from water
EWA drives the energy transition forward. We make the voice of the sector heard, give it a face, and strengthen the network.
Stem
Since 2010, we have represented organizations working on conventional hydropower, tidal currents, tidal basins, wave energy, osmotic energy, and Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC). We provide our members with a voice in shaping policies related to the energy transition and the multifunctional use of the North Sea through consultations and discussions with governments and stakeholders.
Sight
We make opportunities for energy from water visible to the market, politics, and citizens. EWA influences legislation, financing, subsidies, and (government) policy. As a growing open community, we build shared experiential knowledge. EWA gives hydropower in the Netherlands a face.
Network
EWA claims its place in the energy transition. This is possible because the members of EWA have a deep understanding of the market and are embedded in the societal field.
Everything starts with awareness. That’s why we run campaigns, share our knowledge, and organize meetings, conferences, and conduct (market) research.

EWA is lid van:

Ocean Energy Europe
Ocean Energy Europe is the European trade organization that advocates for the wave and tidal energy sector. Our membership gives EWA a voice in the General Assembly of OOE and access to news and subsidies from Europe, making the Netherlands visible in the European field. This year, OEE is organizing its annual conference in the Netherlands for the first time!

NWP
The Netherlands Water Partnership (NWP) is the point of contact for anyone seeking expertise in the field of water or looking to connect with the Dutch water sector. EWA collaborates with NWP to provide that expertise in the areas of energy and water. Due to its extensive network, NWP is also the point of contact for members in the Netherlands who are looking for partnerships and business opportunities abroad. EWA also benefits from NWP's channels.

Nedzero
Wind energy is already the largest supplier of electricity in the Netherlands. By around 2030, 75 percent of the electricity from our outlets will come from wind turbines. Together with solar energy and advanced storage technologies such as batteries, compressed air, and hydrogen, we can make our entire electricity system completely CO2-free within 10 years.

UN Global Compact NL
The UN Global Compact is a voluntary initiative based on commitments from CEOs to implement universal sustainability principles and take steps to support the UN goals.
EWA is a member of the 'Ocean Stewardship' working group, which promotes Net Positive Biodiversity, a relevant topic for our sector. Through this, EWA highlights the theme of energy from water, shares experiences, and learns from approaches in other countries.
EWA in Speakers Corner
Spraakmakers on NPO Radio 1 dedicated extensive attention to energy from water. Reporter Maarten Beumers went out with Peter Scheijgrond to see what is possible in the Netherlands.

Reinier Rijke, Water2Energy
"EWA is responsible for the positioning of our sector. I see that they make the pilots and showcases visible in the places that matter, including through the Netherlands Water Partnership and the Community of Practice North Sea. But also to the wider public and to politics. We need to show that it is a feasible and affordable source that will keep our energy system reliable and affordable even after 2030."

Register your technology on the 'Netherlands Energy Technology Platform"
Recently, the Netherlands Energy Technology Platform (NETP) was launched; an initiative of the RVO and the economic-diplomatic networks in Brazil and the Gulf region, supported by EWA, NWEA, Buccaneer, and IRO. The NETP facilitates international exposure of Dutch energy technologies. Dutch companies can place their technologies for free on this ‘virtual’ platform, which is used by, among others, the embassy network. Get in touch with new market players and export opportunities.
