Technasium students. 10 schools. 1 challenge: harness the power of ocean waves!
After 8 weeks of innovation, the top teams pitched their ideas at the RDM Innovation Dockāand one walked away with the Verolme Award!!
Early 2025, 500 students from ten Technasium schools took on the challenge of harnessing wave energy in a unique competition organised by the Maritime Museum Rotterdam, with Dutch Wave Power as their client.
The project kicked off at the museum, where students were introduced to the potential of ocean waves as a reliable source of renewable energy, especially when the sun isnāt shining or the wind isnāt blowing.
Over eight weeks, teams dove into research and designed their own innovative solutions to capture energy from waves. The best ten teams showcased their ideas during the grand finale that took place on April 9th at the RDM Innovation Dock in Rotterdam.
In a dynamic carousel program with pitches, tours, and presentations, one winning team took home the Verolme Award and the title of wave energy pioneers of the future!
As the client of this challenge, Dutch Wave Power (DWP) played a central role by providing a real-world context for the studentsā innovations. This event was part of the Offshore For SureĀ project, in which DWP is developing a full-scale, seaworthy wave energy pilot to be tested and demonstrated at the Dutch Offshore Test Site, located 12 km off the coast of The Hague.
